Neil has said, on a number of occasions, that the Internet and its
ability to disseminate information widely and quickly has taken away his
artistic freedom to hone new songs in a live setting. He wants to have
control over when and where we hear new songs. He was especially upset
about a sucky live version of Change Your Mind with Booker T that got
distributed widely. He says that he cringes every time he hears it and
wishes he could take it back. This was something he discussed on Much
Music during the NeilTV interview.

As with bootleg trading, I think Neil now realizes that he simply
doesn't have control over such things and never will, so he has turned
his attention to preventing the problem (not playing new songs live, for
example).
